Testimonials"I have recommended ODEC to all of my friends who have teens learning to drive. ODEC focuses on teaching teens how to drive defensively and respectfully. That a car is not about just getting there; but getting there safely. I feel my teens are much more capable of handling themselves in challenging situations after they complete the program than they were before it. I especially like the course that is designed for safe winter driving. I feel that here in Oregon, that is a must. If I didn't put my boys in this program, I would have a much harder time sleeping at night, knowing that they're out there on the road. And I feel much better too when they have other kids in the car with them. I truly don't feel comfortable letting them be in a car with a teen that was not properly trained to drive. I feel confident that these parents whose kids are in my sons' car can feel better knowing that ODEC was responsible for properly training them and teaching them to drive both defensively and respectfully. I realize that no program is foolproof. That the actual driving is up to the teen. But when it comes down to it, I feel that there is no better gift we can give them, their friends and their friends' families than properly teaching them how to safely drive." --Salem, OR.

I liked the in depth subject matter. I was impressed with the trauma nurses presentations to both parents and teens. All and all, the course made my daughter think more about the dangers, privileges and seriousness of driving an automobile.

The Nurse who visited class was great. She really made an impact with her stories and power point presentation of car accidents and what can happen when you make bad choices. Very interactive and fun. The visual presentations were helpful.

Having others tell her the same information that we parents try to share reconfirms the importance.

The behind the wheel instruction was a positive and affective tool for learning better driving habits.

Its just good to have an objective and outside expert source and evaluation. Jessica has a Nov bday, so she had logged 80hrs driving with parents before the classroom instruction. She needed summer lessons to make the time for them. My son's bday is the end of April and I am RELIEVED that summer will come much earlier in his 15th year when it becomes his time to learn. I think one gets the most from this course if they have 20-30hrs of BTW experience before they take it. Just my POV.

BTW classes with Dan Koch - number 5 and 6. He is very encouraging, patient and an excellent teacher.
(You be the Man Dan!!!)

Luke enjoyed his teacher, and the classroom. The BTW instruction was very good.

A very fine program. This is my third child and the first time that we have used ODEC. Scheduling the BTW times more than a week at a time would of been helpful. Overall a good program.

Nick the driving instructor was great! (Good Job Mr. F.!)

My student liked having the opportunity to learn by driving and observing another student with an instructor in the BTW sessions.

I thought the teacher did a very good job teaching the course. The classroom time was more fun than I thought it would be. (Good Job Tom W.)

Overall, I think that ODEC did a very good job. The course taught me a lot and was enjoyable.

Sequential behind the wheel instruction with instructors who communicated specifics back to the parents. It would be great to offer a condensed or accelerated classroom portion to students who have a high GPA or even an independent study where they just come in to take tests or quizzes. While I felt that this overall was valuable, it was an unbelievable number of hours for the amount of material presented, especially for a student who is motivated and used to challenging and interesting courses.

As a parent, I learned new skills as well. For example, how to set your side view mirrors to eliminate the blind spot, how to use reference points, etc.

Driving teachers were patient and reliable.

Very comprehensive and presented close to real life scenarios. Loved the Introductory class with the Trauma Nurse.

Help our son to get off to good start with his driving experience.

In-car driving---because her parents received their licenses long ago and all the driving practices she learned were current

The teacher and his driving teachers were great. He has become a much better driver.

The BTW instruction was a life saver...and I mean that literally!!!!

After a few classes he was helping his parents perfect their driving! The actual BTW experience and feedback. Learning about traffic laws and accidents.

Cheryl is always such a pleasure to talk to and very helpful!

I liked the hands on instruction during behind-the-wheel lessons the most. I especially appreciated the detailed directions by the behind-the-wheel instructors for how to parallel park, do 3 point turns, back into a parking spot, etc.

Current in-depth information that parents might not be up-to-date on.

The BTW hours were the most valuable in my son's opinion. I thought the whole package was valuable to my son and I think he is a better driver because of taking this course.

I liked the safety info. and the trauma nurses that shared all the statistics with the students.

Thanks for saving me the pain of teaching my child to drive. It has made all of us in the family better drivers and more aware of what we do.

Scheduling, which has since been improved with the on line computer scheduling. BTW training was excellent

It was very informative both in theory and the practical aspects. Hence, helpful and worth recommending in many ways. Keep up the good work!

It clarified doubts student had about traffic safety and driving laws.

The class where the nurse spoke about kids driving and the immature state of the teenage brain.

The hints on how to orient the car to the road situations, and the positive reinforcement of good skill development.

Seemed like he gained a sense of confidence and got answers to his questions from experts. Overall, program is quite organized, professional and convenient.

Driving instructors spoke with my daughter and me together following their drive. This was great. My daughter is a very good driver. Twice the instructors had suggestions which were exactly what I had been pointing out to my daughter. It was great to have her hear it from them. Having parents attend the parent session is worthwhile--particularly the Trauma Nurses section.

There were multiple options for taking the BTW classes. The personnel in the Salem office were very helpful when it came to their knowledge of how-to schedule classes. Both me and my daughter appreciate their assistance over the duration of the classes.

Good instructors. Convenient location. Classroom videos.

It improved her driving skills and knowledge.

I really liked that Jordan had the ability to schedule driving lessons on-line.

My daughter really liked the driving classes and the driving instructors.

Driving practice with a professional. I thought the coursework was beneficial, and hearing data from the trauma nurse.

It taught her that driving is a privilege and should be taken very serious. The images of car accidents really put speeding, drinking, talking on the phone in a different light. Thanks for making her a more informed and safer driver. I will definitely send my 14 year old through the course.

Getting driving/safety instruction from an objective third party validates parental input.

The very friendly office staff who handled all of my many phone calls.

My son said he liked the slide shows and video's on the whole drivers ed. He said it helped a lot to learn and make it fun.

I really like how the instructors communicated my daughter progress to me throughout the program. My daughter liked that she learned different techniques from each instructor.

Your office people were EXTREMELY helpful. I had some concerns/issues to work through. Everyone (especially Cheryl) was very accommodating and friendly. Thank you!

Nicole enjoyed the behind the wheel driving. She has more confidence in her driving in town and out on the open road. I feel this course is helpful in many ways. I do wish that teens that are 18 and older were able to take this course as well.

The instructors were willing to take my daughter on roads we had not yet been on. They were also very relaxed and gave her things to work on. I would absolutely recommend every student takes this program.

I liked having my son drive in situations that i hadn't exposed him to yet. i felt he learned a lot having different drivers and student passengers. i liked being able to time the BTW to match our schedule and parent practice time. I valued the email feedback from the BTW lessons.

Very professional -but friendly instructors made this a very positive experience for Nick.

Education part of it, the whys and what to look for. Driving practice was good. It was definitely worthwhile for my son to help build up his confidence. He was not really enthused initially about driving.

Instructors were organized, professional, calm and encouraging. I loved the program. Angie really appreciated Eric's teaching style. She learned a lot from him and the other instructors. Thank you!

High quality instruction.

The course was very well organized and structured, the people on the phone were very helpful, the text materials were well presented.

It's well organized, and there was consistency among all instructors.

How organized it was and how consistent the instructors were.

It helped her become a better driver.

The classroom and behind the wheel instruction for my student were very valuable.

The time behind the wheel and the practical tips on things like how to tell when you have pulled far enough into a parking space, or when you are close enough to the curb.

Instruction and information. Flexibility of schedule. Very nice driving instructors. Overall good program to get youth started.

He felt that he was more knowledgeable and comfortable with his driving skills.

The knowledge that Kyle gained from the classwork and the BTW lessons. Thank you! I appreciate you offering this class to high school students.

My daughter liked driving with teacher Steven Buckley-although each teacher she had was also good. Great program, very well organized and the office staff was incredible! The classroom portion was very helpful and informative and the driving instructors were terrific. A very positive experience for my teenager!

I saw additional improvement in Ellyn's driving after each on-the-road session.

Good automated communication, most behind-the-wheel instructors were good teachers, all were engaging and fun. Classroom portion gave her excellent information. She comments on my driving now!

Thank you for your efforts to help these students become safe drivers.

He was able to take a mock test at the end to prepare him for the real test.

Very informative and up to date on all laws and new techniques. Can hardly wait to get my youngest in the program next summer.

Behind the wheel lessons with instructors that could give me helpful advice and did not make the learning environment stressful. (Joe Deciccio, George Dolansky, Eric MacCartney, Steven Buckley) -Lauren Wack

Mary liked meeting new people and she liked the instructor.

That the class and behind the wheel classes met at our local high school. Thank you very much!! I know you all work hard to make the program high quality.

How much they got out of the program and how much they improved on safety skills.

Learned new information about driving that I would not have thought of. She liked having a variety of instructors, because each had different emphases.

I wasn't the one teaching my son. That there was a formalized process for him to go through.

She learned a lot about safety and the statistics for teenagers. She also became more confident from BTW.

I liked that the class was available on Saturday and the class instruction seemed to be good.

It has been hard for us to drive with her, because we make her nervous, so being able to drive with someone else was extremely beneficial.

The newer information provided surrounding safety, particularly as it relates to air bags was fabulous! The trauma nurses, while often forcing the shock value, provided very useful information.

Driving and learning how to drive. The instructors were easy to understand.

The teacher was NOT mom. Specific detailed instructions were very useful. Parent intro course in the beginning was very informative. This was an excellent course. Thanks so much. You have helped our family thru a big milestone.

This course gave my son the knowledge to be confident about driving.

Nathan has driven with Lois (Gresham/Mt.Hood) and Jacob (Wilson HS). He thought both instructors were very good. (Good Job Lois and Jacob!)

Bryan Bowe is such a great instructor. He always is encouraging and engages with me when I drive. He is continually telling me what I need to work on in a positive way. I also like that he doesn't freak out when you do something crazy on accident! Ya Bryan! (Very Nice BB!)

BTW driving. He had two teachers he really liked.

The convenient scheduling. Thanks!

Helpfulness of staff resolving scheduling issues for driving sessions.

Information was thorough and certainly not only covered driving skills but the importance & maturity of driving responsibility.

Kyle really liked the practice drives he had with Steve Husseman. He felt comfortable and appreciated the feedback he got from Steve. I appreciate the information he received about reference points, and steering pegs. It's hard for a parent to know how to put into words something that is so automatic, like driving, when you've been doing it so long. (Good Job Mr. Husman!)

Very well organized. Very good communication. Ben is our third child. Our older two children took driver's ed. instruction elsewhere. This course far exceeded our expectations, based on our prior experience with similar courses. We especially appreciated the fact that Ben did not have to coordinate his BTW schedule with another student. This was a headache with our prior experience.

Driving instructors...Steven Buckley was amazing (I knew this along time ago. Nice Job Steve!)

Cheryl in the office was absolutely amazing...so helpful and understanding when our scheduling became a nightmare. Without Cheryl (others were nice but not solution oriented) we would probably still be on our second or third driving lesson....huge kudos to her. (Only The Best!)

I think it is good to know where all parts of your car are when driving or parking. I like the way you taught that and using your mirror.

BTW instructor Dan Koch was very informative. He really has Ryan scanning intersections, and bike lanes before entering them. He gives good feed back to Ryan and myself, so I am able to help Ryan practice the correct way. Really appreciated his teaching and input. (Very Nice Dan!)

Convenient locations, both in class and BTW. Great instruction.

I liked the mandatory parent meeting. I came away with a LOT of information. I thought it was a good meeting for my daughter to attend. it gave her a lot to think about.

He gained confidence, especially with an impartial instructor. We had a terrific parent/student orientation. What a great speaker that gal was!

She really enjoyed Lois as an instructor. (Lois is still a Rock Star!)

He enjoyed the BTW lessons the most. He also liked his classroom instructor. Thank goodness for Cheryl at ODEC, who helped us navigate the process. She was great to work with and put a human face on the program.

Having the rules of the road that she was learning at home be reinforced by the instructors so that my daughter gained confidence in her abilities and trust in her parents and instructors.

Flexible driving time schedule--good driving instructors. Overall very impressed with course.

The classroom instruction and parent education night was very worthwhile.

I learned really useful and important things about driving that I may not have otherwise known if I had not taken drivers ed. Parents get so use to driving without really understanding the law to the extent one must know for the test and so drivers ed really prepares you for the driving test. I really enjoyed the course and found it very helpful! Beth is also an excellent BTW instructor and valued her advice and help in driving. Sometimes instructors can be too lax in the car and I appreciated her help in making sure I was really doing everything correctly.

The behind-the-wheel lessons were quite helpful, and the behind-the-wheel instructors were knowledgeable.

Lots of good, practical advice.

Learned a lot at the parent orientation.

I as the student am a much more confident driver because of the course.

Learning things his parents didn't know about setting mirrors, hand placement on the wheel, etc... Things have changed. This was a good investment.

The updates following the session to get a sense of what he needed to work on.

She liked all the information presented in the classroom. She says it made her become a better driver. The Behind-the-Wheel instructor(Michael Cape) was excellent. Good teacher-student interaction and mutual respect and he built alot of confidence in my daughter's ability to drive. (That is the way to do it Michael!)

She liked the behind the wheel lessons. They made her feel much more confident about her driving.

I believe over all it was good for my daughter, she learned a lot and shared the knowledge with her parents. It was like a refresher course for both my husband and myself.

I think the actual driving instruction followed up with a progress report was the most helpful to us. The feedback helped me to focus on what I should be reinforcing during our drive time.

It is a worthwhile class, both classroom and BTW.

He liked the BTW sessions. He got along very well with Toni Phipps. She was great! (Nice Job Toni!)

We appreciated the fact that it was offered during the summer.

A third party input into my son's driving education is great. At this age he does not thinks his parents know anything and this course gave him valuable 3rd party input

It was much easier and less stressful for our son to be instructed by a certified adult.

Great course, very informative:)

The BTW instructor Steve (Do not know if Steve B. or Steve H. so you both get credit!)

Taking it with a friend and being able to focus on learning to drive in the summer... instead of during the hectic school year schedule.

Overall, this is a wonderful program! Thank you so much to the valuable information and skills my son learned. We greatly appreciate your investment in and commitment to our teenagers!

I felt Steve Hussman did a great job teaching my son Carl how to drive both in the classroom and behind the wheel. Steve is very informative and had a relaxed nature. Carl looked forward to his drives and did not get nervous with Steve. (Way to Go Steve!!!)

The on-line scheduling was convenient. It was nice not being tied to the schedule of the partner driver as was the case with my older two kids.

We really appreciated the computer scheduling and follow-up via e-mail. This was new since two other children took the course. Also, we appreciated the thoroughness of the driving portion of the course. The instructor's were very solid.

Thorough lesson plans to bring home to the students the important roles and responsibilities of the driver. Also loved Craig and Dominique! Those two are wonderful BTW driving instructors! (Good Job Craig and Dominique!)

The driving portion of the class was the most helpful to our student. She really liked all her instructors and was able to verbalize more information about driving than we expected. We also saw a marked improvement in her driving.

My daughter learned a great deal of information concerning rules of the road and safety in a short period of time. It was well worth the money!

Good course, thank you.

I liked the hands on training; it was very beneficial having an instructor next to me who could teach me while I was preforming. It helped me understand the road, and feel more comfortable behind the wheel. Overall, the class was beneficial in many ways. I learned information that was not covered in the manual, and gained confidence on the road.

I believe we both thought the driving lessons were the most helpful and also showing the video's of how dangerous cars are.

The hands on experience of being able to drive with the instructor and also that the driving took place primarily in the dark and in the rain. Adverse weather was very good for his overall experience.

Great teacher!! very funny!! (Way to go Josh!)

The driving and the instructors of the driving portion. Eric McCartney was the best by far of all the instructors we had. (Nice Job Eric!)

She enjoyed the BTW instructions from someone other than her parents! She also found that observing the other student driving was beneficial to her as the instructor would make comments that helped her when it was her turn to drive.

Convenience in drive times, and scheduling.

The locations of the classroom and BTW meeting place were convenient. The program seemed to be well-organized and professional, and the information presented seemed to be current.

Instructor made the course more interesting than just reading from the manual. Very interactive. (Thank you Josh!)

I liked that it helped him to better understand the mechanics of operating a vehicle, i.e., stopping, starting, lane positioning, etc.

As a driver, my daughter is now more comfortable, confident and knowledgeable.

She enjoyed all of her behind the wheel instructors. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable.

Ashley liked her instructor Dave Cary very much and felt very good about the course.

It was good for Bri to get instruction from an expert. She absorbed it better than from her parents.

The good driving instructors.

Learning what she needs to pass the DMV driving test. Staff was helpful in helping Emily pass course after missing class for a funeral.

My student felt comfortable asking the instructors questions if he wasn't sure about something or didn't understand it.

He liked how the information was presented, and he was able to retain important facts.I liked the feedback we received from the BTW time. It was very beneficial to both of us. Great course to improve my son's driving skills.

I feel every parent should have their young driver complete this course. It is so important for young drivers to get as gain as much knowledge as they can before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Good course. Great driving schedule with what is covered.

The BTW lessons were non-threatening

The staff I talked to on the phone to help was very nice and as helpful as they could be. I appreciated that they were so helpful.

I recommend Drivers Ed ALWAYS....

This instructor gave chris great feedback after the lesson.

Jessica has enjoyed the BTW sessions, all 3 instructors have been great and she's enjoyed the experiences. We live near Grant, she's done 2 there and one @ Parkrose, she'll do La Salle next week. The lecture the parents needed to attend was FANTASTIC. We will definitely work to start my son's driving experience with this course much sooner in the process of him acquiring his permit. thanks.

We took driver's ed a couple of years ago with my son and they signed up in the classroom. The first kid in line got the best times and it really was a nightmare. This on line way is MUCH easier and fair with all the students involved signing up for times. Really a good solution.

The class was easy to follow. Each unit was well organized and well planned.

It built his on road confidence by having instructors and peers in the car with him--he performed well.

She learned bout the dangers of driving and the pleasures of driving.

I like how thorough Ben is in making himself comfortable in the car before starting the ignition. He checks the mirrors, adjusts the seat and steering wheel, etc. He also has made some very constructive suggestions for my own driving. Ben learned a lot from the course, and I appreciate the teaching he has passed on to me.

As a driver, my daughter is now more comfortable, confident and knowledgeable.

We liked the videos in the classroom and the excellent driving instructors...especially Joe! I would highly recommend this certification course. The office staff was very helpful. Everyone was very professional.

As a parent we feel as though our daughter has gotten so much more knowledge on safety road tips than anyone who didn't have their child in the class. We were fortunate to be able to have her take the class. We highly recommend this be a mandatory class everyone has to take to obtain their license.

The course was very informational and provides the most current traffic rules and regulations. The course was taught at our high school after classes, which was very convenient. The course is overall a great way to have young drivers learn how to drive. I would encourage everyone to take this course.

ODEC should be mandatory for all teens.

I am very pleased with the course. My son is definitely a more careful and more skilled driver as the result of the excellence of the training.

"Classroom and driving instructors were awesome."

I appreciate most the help with the actual driving. Before Driver's Ed I was nervous taking my sons out to practice driving, so I really appreciated the driving assignments because they gave me specific things to work on. They also let me know that my sons were acquiring basic skills and knowledge so they could drive safely on roads. The driving instructors also gave helpful advice on how to practice with them. Thanks!

The people on the phone were always polite and helpful. I definitely had to have extra help to understand how to schedule behind the wheel appointments, and it was provided easily over the phone.

These classes gave her the professional 'experience' of learning and practicing in a classroom & driving session setting. They made a huge difference in at-home driving sessions. Thank you.

She ended up knowing more safety considerations that I knew as an experienced driver. It was eye-opening to hear her ideas on driving safety.

I liked to online feedback from the driving instructors. Good job. Patrick enjoyed the classroom sessions. Thanks to Lois -- She's a rock star!!!

Good Job. Patrick enjoyed the classroom sessions.

The emailed comments after every BTW session were excellent and welcomed.

Many Thanks! Our son took his driving tests both written and behind the wheel. He did so well on the written that the test was stopped early and his driving proctor said Jarett was the first 100% she has given all year.

The behind the wheel practice was by far the most helpful component of the program and he enjoyed the time that he spent driving.

Although class was informative and much better than not having it, more time behind the wheel with an instructor would have been more beneficial to the student and parent. Steven Buckley was outstanding. Other instructors Elizabeth had were good but she related best to Steven's training style and constructive feedback. As a parent, I appreciated the time he spent explaining her progress and areas to work on. I always felt well informed and that Steven had a genuine concern for Elizabeth's success.

I would have liked the course to be longer. I would pay more to have extra time behind the wheel. His confidence really improved and more time would just give him that much more. Wonderful course.

I liked that the course forced my child to look at everything in the Oregon Drivers Manual and put it all into practice w/others besides myself. He ended up being able to recognize scenarios come to life on the road. Josh is excited to soon get his license. I am relieved that he has learned so much from this course that I wouldn't have been able to teach him myself (- especially the male BTW instructor. He needed a positive/constructive 'male' influence and received just that).

Our daughter got a lot of information through this program, and she talked about it all the time when she was driving. She would even correct us, her parents if we did something wrong.

Todd the drive instructor was awesome! This was a great experience for our son. He enjoyed his class teacher and his behind the wheel instructor.

The situation scenarios discussed in class were very valuable and prepared Tom for behind the wheel encounters he experienced during our practice driving. He was able to remember and react effectively to the situations because of what he learned in class. Tom really enjoyed the movies and some of the humor that went along with it. There really wasn't anything I didn't like about the course overall, however, it would have been nice to know how he was progressing grade-wise in class with some kind of communication from the instructor (e-mail, progress report, etc.) I think this is a very important class that I feel should be mandatory for all new drivers. The benefits and instruction provided by this class are an important part of the whole learning experience for teen drivers that will continue to improve their skills into the future. Thanks for such a positive experience for Tom.

My student enjoyed the BTW lessons and their instructors, particularly Joe Deciccio. GREAT PROGRAM!

Instructors where knowledgeable and always informed me of how my child was doing while driving what they need to work on. I think this was a very good program which has helped my son become a better driver.

My daughter liked how they applied the in class learning to the behind the wheel drives, they got to apply knowledge instead of just memorizing techniques that they didn't use. She knows the laws and rules of the road and that's very important. Also drove for someone other than family who is more objective. This course should be mandatory for all teens.

I liked that courses were available all over the area. It is easy to make up classes. The staff I spoke with was very helpful and accommodating when possible. We liked the friendliness and approachability of the instructors.

My student enjoyed driving with Bryan Bowe, because Bryan was relaxed, respectful and explanatory.

Overall, the course prepared my daughter to be a safe and courteous driver. She was able to master driving skills, pass the written, and driver's test. We practiced what she learned during in-class and in-car sessions. She was able to teach me the acronyms. Money well spent. It makes me more comfortable as the parent of a new driver. Thank you!

I liked the drive behind the wheel and the awareness of using tools to help improve one's driving techniques. I enjoyed meeting the instructors and their positive comments and areas where attention was needed.

The best part of the class was the behind the wheel training...of course. This is a very good instructional course and should be mandatory for all, before being allowed to apply for a license...

Worth Every Penny of it! My daughter shared information that is very valuable - much more than we ever were taught in the 80's. The education she received will definitely improve her driving skills. She just received her drivers permit 2 weeks prior to the class. Having taken this class prior to a lot of driving time I think eliminates bad driving habits from ever forming and created a broader awareness especially "defensive" driving. This should be required for every one prior to getting a license!

The course is very helpful for her. She is more aware of the rules/regulations. It was very informative.

Great Teacher-so helpful!

I find that the course is an absolute tool for teenagers to be safe, well informed future drivers.

I've required all my children to take it and will continue to. They are noticeably safer drivers after taking your course.

This is the second of our three sons to take the course. It is solid and we plan on using it again for our third son in another year!

My son found this course very helpful! He really did enjoy it.

This course seemed like a good value for the classroom instruction and BTW. Great driving teachers- Great scheduling system also The Parent orientation should be mandatory for both parents and students.

BTW instructors provided good feedback and My Student felt comfortable driving with the instructors. I think the BTW instructors provide an invaluable service. The classroom instructor was considerate enough to call and let My Student know when he was missing assignments. We appreciated that very much. All in All a great team of instructors (Good Syllabus also)

The course should be mandatory for every teen before they can be licensed.

The class seemed very thorough and the parent orientation brought me up to date on new driving methods and techniques.

I'm really glad the trauma nurse program is part of drivers ed. Also the BTW instruction was very good. My daughter thought the class was a little boring even though the content was good.
